Dude Rally on Saturday
Jenn Brookens — Sentinel Staff WriterFAIRMONT - Motorcycle and classic car fans will enjoy the first annual Dude Roll-In, Ride and Rally going on this weekend to benefit the Martin County Veterans van transportation program.
The event begins tonight with a classic car roll-in in Northrop. Activities are scheduled all day Saturday at the Flying Goose Campground.
"We had organized a ride in the past, and those who participated said they wanted to have another one," said Ruth Theobald, co-chair for the Dude Roll-in and Ride committee. "So we looked for a good cause and we got in contact with Joe McAleavy (of the Fairmont VFW), and that's how we came about doing the ride for the Martin County Veterans."
Saturday will start with a flag ceremony and Chris cakes from the Rotary Club at 7:30 a.m., and registration for the ride and cruiser show. The ride will begin at 9 a.m.
At 3 p.m., the riders rally begins with a cruiser and motorcycle show, silent auction and two local bands performing. Red Lipstick of Blue Earth will perform from 4-7 p.m., while the Dark Horse band performs from 7:30-11 p.m.
Funds raised will go toward a new van for the Veterans Van Transportation Program, which is expected to cost about $50,000. The Veterans Van Transportation program provides rides for military veterans to attend doctor appointments at the Veterans Administration hospitals and clinics in Sioux Falls, S.D., and Minneapolis.
