Letter threatens judge, prosecutor

Sarah Day — Staff Writer
POSTED: June 13, 2009

BLUE EARTH - A man committed in St. Peter faces charges for allegedly threatening a judge and assistant county attorney.

Faribault County District Court Judge Douglas Richards received a letter May 25 addressed to himself and Martin County Assistant County Attorney Michael Trushenski from Larry Dean Dyslin Jr. Originally from Martin County, Dyslin is incarcerated in the Minnesota Security Hospital.

The letter was copied in the court complaint and begins:

"I Larry Dean Dyslin Jr. am going to blow both of your heads off with a shotgun and kill your familys ..."

The letter goes on to threaten destruction of the Martin and Faribault County courthouses, and violence against police or FBI agents.

Dyslin was charged with terroristic threats in Faribault County, and faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and $10,000 fine.

Officials say this isn't the first time Dyslin has threatened authorities in Faribault County.

Last year, Judge Richards and Public Defender Troy Timmerman were threatened, according to a police blotter. No charges were filed in that instance.

Dyslin was charged last month with four felony counts of terroristic threats in Blue Earth County against the Mankato Clinic.

The Mankato Free Press cited a report saying Dyslin called an employee saying he would bomb the clinic if he kept receiving bills.

Faribault County Deputy Terry Campbell suggests Dyslin's access to mailing letters and making phone calls be restricted after so many threats.

Last year, a bomb threat was called into the Faribault County Courthouse.

"(He is) suspected, but we do not know," Campbell said.

Sheriff Mike Gormley said there have been several threats from Dyslin over the years to different people.

"He's threatened other judges and attorneys," Gormley noted.

While charges are ultimately filed by the county attorney, Gormley believes they were filed to document Dyslin's threats and to make a statement: "You can't make those kinds of threats."

This guy is a couple clowns short of a full circus. He was staying at the Budget Inn when I worked there and used to follow me into the room I was cleaning and try to shut the door on me. He had broken into a room that a woman was staying in and stole all her birth control pills and underwear.
