Arnold Hansen
FENTON, Iowa - Arnold Hansen, 85, of Fenton died Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, Iowa.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Fenton, Iowa, with Pastor Judy DePue officiating. Internment will be at the Methodist Cometary. Visitation will be Tuesday prior to the service, from 5-7 p.m. at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Fenton.
Military rites will be presented by American Legion Post 0627 from Fenton.
Arnold W. Hansen, the son of Peter and Clara (Jacobsen) Hansen, was born November 19, 1923, in Ringsted, Iowa.
He graduated from Seneca High School. Arnold served in the United States Army from June 1943 through November 1947. During his military service Arnold was awarded two Purple Hearts. Following his honorable discharge from military service he returned to the area. On June 4, 1947, Arnold was united in marriage to Mary Georgia Newel. The couple made their home in Fenton where they raised their family and Arnold was employed as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for 24 years. The couple enjoyed spending winters in Texas.
Arnold was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Fenton. He was also a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, a Shriner, Disabled American Veteran's and the American Legion, where he was an active member for 60 years. Arnold served on the Fenton City Council for 10 years, served as Mayor for 10 years, and was also a founding member of the Development Corporation.
Left to cherish Arnold's memory are his wife, Mary Georgia of Fenton; his children, Randa Hansen of Mission, Texas; Roger Hansen and his wife, Diane of Whittemore, Iowa; Martha Hansen and her husband, Jay Wallish of Roseville, Minn.; and five grandchildren, Jeremy Hansen; Jacob Hansen; Jenna Hansen; George Wallish and Jack Wallish.
Preceding Arnold in death were his parents; two brothers, Daryle and Arlowe; and one sister, Velma Pefferman.
