Foundation awards $30,000 in grants

FAIRMONT - The Fairmont Area Foundation awarded more than $30,000 in grants to 11 local organizations Friday at Fairmont's first summer Fridays in the Park.

The foundation has given grants designed to enhance the quality of life in the Fairmont area annually since 1994.

This year's recipients include:

o $5,000 to Ceylon for the installation of lights on the south ball diamond.

o $4,000 to Community Options and Resources for two computers, a firebox and a server.

o $3,000 to "Let's Go Fishing" to purchase a dock and pontoon lift.

o $2,000 to the Fairmont Fire Department to buy single-gas monitors and a MobileLink thermal-imaging receiver.

o $2,000 to the Fairmont Soccer Association to acquire three pairs of U11/U12 size goals and nets.

o $600 to Lutheran Social Services of MN in Sherburn to purchase a dishwasher.

o $3,000 to the Martin County Fair to paint the horse barn and various electrical upgrades to the cattle barn.

o $2,500 to the Northrop Volunteer Fire Department to purchase a Scott Air Pak.

o $3,000 to the Sherburn Fire and Ambulance Department to purchase a new Stryker cot.

o $2,500 to the Trimont Fire Department to purchase and equip a grass-fire rig.

o $5,000 to the Truman Fire Department to purchase stabilization equipment for auto extrication.

In the 16 years since the foundation was organized, it has given out $688,575 from its investment earnings.
