Fairmont - Services for Viola "Vi" E. Sukalski, 86, of Fairmont will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in East Chain.
Vi passed away Friday evening, August 15, 2008, at the Fairmont Medical Center. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and one hour prior to the service at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lakeview Funeral Home.
Viola "Vi" Esther Wedoo was born on April 4, 1922, in Estherville, Iowa, the daughter of LeRoy and Hazel (Christian) Wedoo. She grew up in Clear Lake, Iowa, where she attended school. She was united in marriage to Harry Sukalski at the Holy Family Catholic Church in East Chain. They lived in East Chain for a short time before moving to Fairmont. Vi worked at Stokely Van Camp then was a cook for many years at the Oaks Inn, Laur-Els Restaurant and then the Redwood. Harry passed away in 1976.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Anderson and Linda Sukalski, both of Fairmont; two sons, Melvin Sukalski and his wife, Barb; Jerry Sukalski and his wife, Kathy, all of Fairmont; six grandchildren, Cheryl Sinn, Brandon Sukalski, Jay (Miranda) Sukalski, Jill Sukalski, Leslie (Tom) Heilman, and Matt Sukalski; one great-grandson, Nathan Heilman; two brothers-in-law, Ed Sukalski of Fairmont, David Sukalski of East Chain; one sister-in-law, Leona Lindberg; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Vi was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry; and one son, Edward Sukalski; one sister, Betty Malo; one brother, Robert Wedoo.
