BUTTERFIELD — A Celebration of Life Services for Jerome C. Melson, 76, of rural Butterfield, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Kansas Lake Lutheran Church in rural Butterfield with Pastor Joel Xavier officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery with full military honors by the Donald V. Larson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9607 of Butterfield.

Jerome died on Saturday morning, June 21, 2008, at the Trimont Health Care Center in Trimont, Minn. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont and one hour prior to the services at the Church on Monday. Jerome Charles Melson was born September 26, 1931, to Carl and Esther (Abelson) Melson in Mountain Lake, Minn. He received his education in rural schools in Odin Township and then attended Butterfield High School. On January 16, 1951, he entered the National Guard Army of the United States serving until his honorable discharge on August 18, 1952. On August 26, 1955, he was united in marriage to Gail Redmond at First Lutheran Church in St. James, Minn. After their marriage he farmed in the area until 1959 when he hired out for the Railroad. Jerry then was employed as a Conductor/Brakeman for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for thirty-two years and three months until his retirement in December of 1991. He was a member of Kansas Lake Lutheran Church. A lifetime member of the Donald V. Larson V.F.W. Post #9607 in Butterfield where he served many years in it’s Honor Guard.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Melson of rural Butterfield, Minn.; daughter, Pat Johnson and husband, Gary, of rural Dunnell, Minn., daughter, Julie Nelson and husband, Russell, of Ormsby, Minn.; son, Ron Melson and wife, Kim, of Mountain Lake, Minn.; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; twin sister, Joyce Pierson of St. James, Minn. and sister, June Johnson of Rochester, Minn.; brother, Roger Syverson and wife, Bernie, of Roseville, Minn.; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law, Dwayne Johnson and Roger Pierson; mother-in-law, Lorene Redmond and other relatives.
