Mildred I. Mayberry

FAIRMONT — Services for Mildred I. Mayberry will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont with pastor Tedd Bryant, United Church of Christ, Rockford, Ill., officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park in Fairmont.

Mildred passed away Thursday evening, April 24, 2008, at the Lakeview Methodist Health Center in Fairmont.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Mon-day, April 28, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at Lakeview Funeral home in Fairmont.

Mildred Irene Hanson was born on Oct. 31, 1911, in Sherburn, Minn., the daughter of Arnold and Lucy (Harvey) Hanson. Mildred attended the first eight grades at District 26 country school, rural Sherburn. She graduated from Sherburn High School in 1930. She graduated from Winona State College and taught schools in Winona and South St. Paul. She married Thomas Mayberry in St. Paul on October 24, 1936. They lived in Sherburn, Welcome and later in Fairmont. She taught rural schools in Fox Lake and Ceylon. When the rural schools were being consolidated, she worked at Koenig’s Variety Store for several years. Then she taught at the Welcome Public School for 21 years before retiring in 1985. Thomas Mayberry passed away on April 17, 1973.

She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Fairmont and taught Sabbath School for many years, also was the church treasurer since the church was built in 1965. She belonged to the Fairmont Area Retired Teachers, Top of the Hill Club and a Birthday Club.

She is survived by two sons, Tom Mayberry and his wife, Crystal, of St. James, Minn., and Dwight Mayberrry of Rockford, Ill.; two daughters-in-law, Mary Ann Mayberry of Fairmont and Faye Mayberry of Kentucky; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mildred was also preceded in death by two sons, Adam and Dale Mayberry; one grandchild; two brothers; and four sisters.

Mildred wrote “I want to thank all my Welcome students and let them know how much I appreciated all of them.”
