Nation will have to get young people engaged

May 16, 2013

The United States could be at a dangerous demographic and cultural crossroads. While the road to choose may seem obvious, to those who care, we may never reach it....

In a display of sheer silliness, he Republican dominated House of Representatives voted today for the 37th time to repeal Obamacare, knowing full well that the measure will never be brought up in the Senate, wouldn't be passed by them if it were brought up, and would be vetoed if it did pass. Can you blame anyone of any age for wondering just what the GOP is thinking?

Republicans control the House, can effectively prevent the passage of Democrat measures in the Senate, and thus bear the greater responsibility for today's gridlock. They are like kids saying "I wanna be boss or I won't play"; and too many of them, too often, are standing pat on what many of us - again of all ages - think are stick-in-the-mud stances on those very issues the editors say young people are interested in.

Loosen up, GOP! Show some willingness to bend, to compromise, and you just might get a hearing on your complaints about entitlements. As it is, it's not just the young who have given up on y

Just follow prog Joe and his minions...and they will lead you & your children away from this detestable corrupt capitalist based country! They will lead you to the promised land of progressive liberal democrats...where all is provided to you by your benevolent government...and paid for by those of us who dare to disagree with them and continue to believe in freedom, personal accountability and GASP capitalism!!

Has government grown too big? Yes.

Do we need to revisit the whole subject of entitlements and insure they are for those truly in need or, as in Social Security, go only to those who have earned them? Yes.

Do we need to revisit health care and come up with a truly workable plan? Yes.

Are we going to accomplish this by calling people Communists, and gridlocking every compromise even when it gets half-a-loaf or more?

Hmmm.

Stonewalling, sloganeering and insulting those who disagree doesn't change many of their minds. No wonder the kids lean to the Democrats. And some of us 50 years away from being kids.

How can we get the young people engaged when they are given a label of ADHD, FGHR, WXYZ and then medicated and shoved on social security never having to work again at 18 years old? No wonder i won't ever see retirement! Everytime i see some jobless kid smoking premium cigs and just hanging out eating junk food and talking on their iPhone they bought with my tax dollars, i wanna get the belt out.
