The U.S. Senate has passed a bill that would subject online sales to state sales taxes....

"Revenue collected from sales taxes helps fund some government services, such as roads and bridges"
I thought that the tax on fuel paid for roads and bridges?
Explain to me again why we even have a sales tax... Is it mostly because the politicians can't budget correctly? Or do they just like "spending other peoples" money?
And why do I pay sales tax on alcohol, when it is already taxed? So I am paying tax on a "tax"?

Taxes should be done away with period. For instance, in Fairmont, we recently passed a bill raising property taxes because the district claimed that we are behind on the amount we spend on students. First of all I don’t have any students here. Second, what they claimed in the argument that swayed voters was an outright lie. We now have tripled the taxes on ourselves compared to what the other cities pay for students based on population. The reason other communities have more money for students is that the population is higher. Simple math says we have 10,000 people here compared to the larger communities that have 30,000 plus people. Dig your hand into my pocket because morals no longer exist as in the case above. Let’s build a football stadium based on gambling and not use money for something like roads or schools. Let’s waste all the money on watching guys wearing purple run down a field for the non-profit organization called the NFL. If you think about or actually look...

If equity is the goal here, why can brick-and-mortar simply deal with the tax in their store location state, while others like Amazon must deal with all 50 states? This is the first proposal ever to charge a sales tax based on the residence of the customer. It should be based on the location of the office or distribution center. When I drive to Sioux Falls, I pay S.D. tax, not MN. If a state wants sales tax revenue, then it can bring in an online sales business. Keeping track of 50 states is the part the smaller businesses are concerned about.
