MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins were without left fielder Delmon Young and shortstop Adam Everett for Tuesday night’s game against the Oakland Athletics, leaving manager Ron Gardenhire with a two-man bench.
Young injured his ankle while chasing down a double by Jack Cust in the fourth inning on Monday night.
‘‘Delmon’s not moving around very well today,’’ Gardenhire said Tuesday before the game.
He said Young could be available in an emergency situation, but he would rather give him the day off and see how he feels on Wednesday for the series finale.
Everett was sitting in the dugout in the sixth inning when he was hit on the right hand by a foul ball off the bat of teammate Nick Punto. X-rays showed that it was just a deep bruise and there were no broken bones, but Gardenhire said Everett will be out for at least the next two games.
