Tonderum commits to SMSU
ACCELERATION — Armstrong-Ringsted senior tailback Tyler Tonderum (right) accelerates toward a hole created by end Craig Tigges’ block on Adair-Casey’s Stephen Clarke (left) during the Iowa Eight-Man state football semifinals at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Tonderum signed a national letter of intent to play football for Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall in the fall.
ARMSTRONG — Tyler Tonderum made the Armstrong-Ringsted Mustangs one of the best offenses in all of Iowa high school football the last three seasons. Now, the all-time leading rusher in the history of Iowa Eight-Man football will step into an offense already among the leaders in their conference. Tonderum, a senior standout tailback, put ink to paper Wednesday like so many other prep standouts to continue his athletic career at the collegiate level. What’s more, he won’t even have to get readjusted to a new team nickname. Tonderum will take a northwest run after signing a national letter of intent to play running back for the Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs in Marshall. “I thought it was a good fit for myself. It’s some place I can go to for four years and feel really happy with being there,” said Tonderum. Tonderum enters the program heavily decorated at the high school level.
