Churches, schools and Scriptures
October 25, 2012 - Jodelle Greiner
In pioneer times, when a group of settlers found the land they wanted, oftentimes the first building they erected was a church. That church was then used during the weekdays for school. And — horrors! — they started the school day with a Bible reading and prayer.
I wonder what they’d make of all this separation of church and state arguing. Forbidding any mention of God or prayer in a public school is a very recent thing, I think from the 1960s. Any of you remember prayer in the schools from way back?
