Check out the museum

March 17, 2008 - Lee Smith
The Sentinel often gets requests from people seeking more information from past events or looking to conduct some research in our morgue. We generally don't have good news for them. Our staff is not large enough to include a research librarian, so we don't really have time to dig through archives. We can assist people who want to stop down to our actual site, but unfortunately many of those seeking our help live elsewhere. Often they might be looking for information on a relative or friend or some event from distant past. I generally like to recommend the Pioneer Museum in Fairmont for these requests. The museum is much-better suited to handle research. Its archive of local newspapers and other sources far exceeds anything the Sentinel can offer. It is also very well organized and well run by Lenny Tvedten, the executive director of the Martin County Historical Society. They will charge a fee for their services, but it is well worth it. You get the information you need and the fee helps keep this excellent resource in operation. The number at the museum is (507) 235-5178. It is located at 304 E. Blue Earth Ave., Fairmont MN 56031.
