Work in Progress...

June 27, 2012 - Jennifer Brookens
Tonight, my summer blur slowed just a bit, as we finally had time to get my birthday present set up: a new gazebo. Since my birthday last month, it's been one of us busy with work/out of town, the weather was either too hot, too stormy, etc. It was always something! But a month and 5 days later, my backyard escape is up.

And it's still a work in progress...

A few years ago, we had a gazebo that was meant to be a permanent structure. However three brutal winters in a row pretty much did it in. Last year, there was no place for us to set up our patio furniture. But we got brick blocks for a floor, determined to try again. So when I got a "seasonal gazebo" that could be taken down in the fall, I was thrilled. But it still took a month before we had a chance to open the box.

We've learned a few things from laying the brick to putting up the structure this season.

1) Translations from Chinese to English take an extra degree of pondering, making one step amount to at least three.

2) There's only so many brick patio blocks you want to try to carry on an out of town trip in a minivan.

and 3) Curiosity from a four- and eight-year-old will nearly destroy the gazebo within five minutes of the structure being in place.

There are still more brick blocks needed, as only the table and front legs of the chairs fit on the "flooring" right now. But it's better than just seeing those bricks with the gazebo box sitting on top of them in a corner in the garage, just waiting for that "someday" to be put to use.

It's a work in progress, but at least there's progress...
