| | Confessions of mothersMay 4, 2012 - Kylie SaariWhile browsing the internet I tend to lean toward blogs and websites directed toward mothers, because, you know, I am one. And occasionally these types of sites will post "shocking confessions of mommies!" and inevitably they are not as sensational as they sound. Typically they are things like: I let my kids watch 1/2 hour extra of TV once because I was tired, or, I fed my baby solids before she was six months. Oh, the scandal! The horror! With moms like these roaming about, who knows what our next generation will bring! I jest, of course. I was once so uptight and afraid of doing things wrong these types of slips would have had me in a dither also. (A note to new moms: It does get less scary as time goes on and nothing terrible happens, or when it does, everyone survives.) But I read a confessions blog recently that was alarming. Moms saying they leave their twin babies home alone, let their toddler take a bath without supervision because Mom has other things to do, and other truly unsafe and irresponsible things. I don't know if the site made these things up or not, but either way, hopefully no ones things, see other moms do it, so I can too. There are somethings that moms need to just chill about when other moms do them — like let baby have a bite of cookie before they are one year old or play in the yard in a diaper and onsie — but some are definitely too dangerous to risk. A big part of parenting is learning where the line is between overprotectiveness and keeping them safe is. It is one I am still learning, as my kids reach another level of independence, and I hope it is one these moms on this list learn before it is too late.
