December 4, 2011 - Jennifer Brookens
A few weeks ago, when the first snowflakes fell, my kids were elated! Even though it was more like ice pellets, they insisted in going out and playing in it. And like most snowfalls, that elation lasted only about 5 minutes. Plus the icy mix wasn't enough to even erase the Halloween chalk drawings from the sidewalk.

But now that it's December, it seemed almost fitting the snow began to fall this weekend as the kids and I decorated the Christmas tree (I couldn't stand the pestering anymore, which began the day after Thanksgiving). But this time the children were content to celebrate the snowfall my way - as in staying inside with mugs of hot chocolate and watching the Charlie Brown Christmas special after we finished the tree.

Day 2, and I had to venture out into the snow... Well, it really wasn't too bad, providing everyone rememebered or quickly re-learend how to drive in winter. The temps remained in the 20s, and, well... I couldn't really complain. Perhaps if the temps stay above the goose egg, I thought, maybe winter won't be such a bear after all.

On that optimistic note, I'll revisit this once the holidays have passed...
