Let us know
August 24, 2011 - Jodelle Greiner
We’ve received some comments and thank yous for the article on Makayla Hall, the 9-year-old nationally-ranked horse rider. These are the kinds of articles I personally like to do. You get to talk to someone about something they love and I almost always learn things during these interviews.
These articles are much nicer to do than some of the other things we have to report on, particularly the crime. No reporter hears a call over the scanner about a fire or a shooting and goes “Oh, goodie!” You’re more likely to hear groans and the sound of feet dragging as we trudge out to find out what’s happening because we know we’re going to catch heck for reporting on it.
The problem is it’s hard to get these stories like Makayla’s. Generally, we hear them out on the street, while eavesdropping on conversations. I get a lot of leads from attending meetings and hearing comments from board members about what they’ve been hearing. Every once in the great while, someone will call or drop an e-mail and tell us about something like this.
What gets me is everybody says they like these articles and want to read more of them, but so few people tell us about stuff like this. We’re not mind-readers, folks, call us at 507-235-3303 or drop us a line at email@example.com, firstname.lastname@example.org or to any of the reporters with our first initial and last name followed by @fairmontsentinel.com. My e-mail is email@example.com.
