Bleeding green and gold ...

September 11, 2008 - Lee Smith
I've been a Green Bay Packers fan for three decades now, so it hasn't been easy to watch the Brett Favre saga unfold this summer. It's difficult to believe that Favre is playing pro football and it isn't in Green Bay. He has been leading the Packers all of my adult life.

That said, pro football's opening weekend certainly brought new interest for me and others as Favre earned his first victory with the New York Jets. And, thrill of thrills, new Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers played extremely well against the purple scum. There's probably no better way for a quarterback to start off his career in Green Bay than to bump off the Vikings. Packer fans will be hoping for more performaces like that one, and that Rodgers will be half as durable as Favre.

In any case, it seems to me that the team to watch out for in the division will be the Chicago Bears. Healthy on defense again, the Bears beat up on Indianapolis in Indy. If the Bears' offense just manages the ball, the Bears will be in business.
