For real guys? At least it is entertaining for the rest of us...

As is common knowledge for most people who regularly use the internet (and since you are reading a blog I assume that means you), comment boards are rife with insults, insensitivity, and idiocy at times. But a recent exchange on the Sentinel's website on one of our stories is so silly I have to call it out.

The story was a letter to the editor in reference to our police department, and the gist of the conversation was that police are making criminals out of people by prosecuting crime.

The first commenter I have added makes a comment about not seeing the true problem and blaming it on something else by referencing looking fat. See below:

Commenter #1: Yeah, it's the cops that make criminals out of your dirt bag, criminal kid. Just like it's the pants that make you look fat. I think it's the FAT that makes you look fat.

After another commenter says his or her peace about the article, in comes the point of this blog.

Commenter #3 The only dirtbag is you wildthing..and I bet you're fat too.

We are on a blog, no one can see anyone, and unless you are the Sentinel's system administrator, no one knows who anyone is. But we still get into fat jokes.

Here is commenter #1's response to that: Not fat, but definitely a dirtbag...good thing there's no cops.

At least commenter #1 brings the conversation slightly back on topic. I believe we have hit a new and entertaining low in article comments. I hope the commenters have a sense of humor about it. It is hard to tell in this type of forum, perhaps we should require emoticons on the comment boards. ;)
