The worst people on Earth ...
April 20, 2011 - Lee Smith
A royal wedding.
I’m sorry, but this isn’t only a joke, it’s a disgrace.
We live in the 21st century, yet somehow royalty still exists on Earth. Why is that? I guess I can’t blame the royals. It’s good to be the king. (All credit to Mel Brooks.)
But why does the populace of Britain put up with these free-loading, inbred wastrels? While individual royals may contribute something (military service, charity work?), royalty contributes nothing. Except, apparently, inspiring the insipid, middle-aged, tabloid-reading American housewife and her dreams of princess-hood.
Worse, royalty is an irrational concept, added to a modern stew of too many other irrational concepts. “Royalty.” That is someone who is deemed “better” than others by a right of birth, and who has wealth and luxury bestowed upon him or her for merely existing. This is so un-American. Here we admire most those who begin in poverty and use ingenuity and hard work to achieve something, with riches their reward.
The United States threw off the burden of royals in the American Revolution. We did well. Not as well as France, though.
If Britain’s royals ever want to win any measure of respect, their choice is obvious: Abdicate, once and for all. To continue in their silly farce is an insult to every other human being on the planet.
