Stay in the lines

April 2, 2011 - Jodelle Greiner
Now that the weather is warming up and the snow is (almost) gone, I hope someone goes around town and re-paints the parking stripes.

The lot by the post office at Five Lakes Centre really needs to be re-done because the lines are almost invisible. With all the snow we had all over that parking lot, not to mention the snow pushed into piles on the south edge, people forgot where the lines actually were and were parking wherever they could, which was understandable. Now, they need to get in practice again, and it would help to be able to see the lines.

I think re-painting lines would remind folks where to park in other lots, too.

There are some public lots west off Downtown Plaza (one outside the Sentinel’s back door) where people are parking in places that are not stalls and are actually parking in the way of traffic, some by cramming big vehicles in spaces not large enough for a compact car, or parking in an entry or exit. I’ve seen these vehicles parking in these same places for a few months, and it might take more than a can of paint to get them to change their bad habits. I’d suggest some big old heavy sawhorses with large “NO PARKING” signs on them. If that doesn’t work, maybe a ticket would get their attention. (Although, our police have better things to do with their time than play meter maid for drivers who should know better and who should be showing more common sense.)

Let’s hope it doesn’t take some other driver running into their car to convince them leaving their vehicle where it doesn’t belong is a hazard.
