No favorites on TV for me
March 7, 2011 - Jennifer Brookens
A while back, the newsroom crew was discussing their favorite TV shows, and when someone asked me, I didn't have one. This weekend, when I had the rare opportunity to watch TV with no little ones around, I realized why. Either what qualifies as entertainment has gone downhill, or I'm just too hard to please. Even with the 150+ channels to choose from, there seems to be less and less on.
What did I find? Sports and reality shows. Yep, since I'm not a sports nut (though my husband is, thus why we have this ridiculously overpriced cable package) that cancels out a block of channels of interest to me. Then the Bridezillas, Jersey Shores, Basketball Wives and other Princess brat/stud muffin reality shows just make me wanna slap these spoiled and/or drunken bozos and tell them to try working for a living.
I don't follow any of the current sitcoms since most are too racy/violent for when the kids are around. Besides, Charlie Sheen doesn't need any more attention these days, now does he?
And don't bother telling me about Oprah's new network, or the Womens or Hallmark channels. I've become too jaded to do the "chick flick" thing. Travel channels just make me jealous and depressed that we're stuck until this current ice age dissipates.
That's probably why the only shows I'm familiar with are... yup, my kids' shows. And believe me, when I had the TV room all to myself and was voluntarily watching Phineas and Ferb, it brought me to a whole new low.
So what on TV would make me happy? Well, maybe world peace, some intellectual stimulation, or some good news for a change... Or better yet, bring MXC back! Now THAT'S quality entertainment! haha ;)
