How the mighty(?) have fallen ...

September 17, 2010 - Lee Smith

Well, here's one from the ha ha, I'm taking pleasure in your misfortune file: Former Viking quarterback Daunte Culpepper and former coach Denny Green have been reunited in the 2-year-old United Football League. They are with the Sacramento Mountain Lions.

Mountain Goats would be more appropro.

Culpepper and Green were with the much-hated (by me) Vikings when they also had crybabies Cris Carter and Randy Moss. Every Packer victory against this group was doubly sweet. Every loss twice a tragedy. Both Green and Culpepper went on to different NFL teams after the Vikings. Neither shined.

Now it's UFL time. The UF-what? That's right. Culpepper thinks he's on some kind of comeback trail. He was ineffective at Miami, Oakland and Detroit before exiting the NFL in 2008. It was so nice knowing he was gone and forgotten. Now it's better. Knowing he'll be a UFL washout and end his career in ignominy. Hee hee.

And what's Green up to? Didn't that job as a Gary Coleman impersonator work out? Is he planning on riding Culpepper — Culpepper? — back to the NFL? Or has he just decided that he hasn't embarrassed himself enough in life? No time for the drums anymore, Denny?

In all seriousness, I wish Denny and Daunte the best. Maybe they can make the UFL playoffs. Wouldn't that be something?
