At the movies

July 4, 2010 - Jennifer Brookens

I did something unusual (for me) this weekend. I went to two different movies at the theater, when I usually only go out to a movie once every few months.

The first one, I went to the late show by myself of the Twilight saga "Eclipse" (The co-workers that I managed to get hooked on the series went to an earlier showing, thus I was stuck channeling my inner teenage girl solo.) Granted, this part of the series wasn't as heart-wretching as the last installment, but even the big love declaration/marriage proposal/love triangle didn't move me. It was a chick flick, but no tissues were needed.

Then - as my regular bi-annual bribe for my daughter to keep her room from being condemned by the State Board of Health - we went to Toy Story 3 Saturday afternoon. I was surprised at the commercials (which were a little racy and I would've expected at the previous show) at the beginning. But for a G movie, there were some scary parts in there that had my daughter crying. And at the bittersweet end, I was blubbering. In conclusion: I'm no longer moved by chick flicks, but give me a kids movie and I cry like a baby. What gives? But I guess I won't really start to worry until I start bawling at Adam Sandler flicks....
