Where we last left off...
June 19, 2014 - Jennifer Brookens
As predicted, since summer break began I've been in a whirlwind juggling four different schedules, with none that want to coincide nicely with each other. I've been a sports widow/single mom, I've been the family's emergency management director (by shooing the kids into the stinky cellar three times in one evening for tornado/storm warnings), and basically worn out enough that I'm falling asleep before my kids even want to get their PJs on.
I've been guzzling caffeine (coffee in the morning, soda in the afternoon until the last load of dishes and/or laundry is done), worried about the transmission dropping out in my van, and getting too well-acquainted with the Bobgoblin character from my son's current favorite TV show.
I've learned exactly where Glacier National Park is in Montana, what the weather is like over there this time of year, and that I sent my daughter there with only a spring jacket when it had a record June snowstorm. I also learned that Amtrak has a horrific delay record. 10 p.m. boarding = 4 a.m. (Hoping that The Girl and Gramma aren't on each other's last nerve already).
And things are just chaotic and unstable enough that we still have yet to nail down any significiant family vacation time. I would wish to win the lotto, but reality tells me any money spent on tickets will just end up in the pockets of some bozo in California or Florida. Instead I will wish to be reincarnated as one of the spoiled housecats like the giant wooly mammoth ball of fur that likes to trip me as I'm dashing to and fro. Lay in doorways, demand food, sleep in clean laundry baskets... yeah, that sounds like a good life right about now.
So... how's your summer going?
