Time for something fun...

March 8, 2014 - Jennifer Brookens
So... I'm going to be brave and say it: No more below-zero temperatures! Even if we still get some sloppy snowstorms, we shouldn't be plunged back into the deep freeze. As I looked around at the Spring Expo this weekend, I have to admit I started getting excited for spring. I'm probably not alone when I say I definitely needed some cheering up from these winter blahs (and the kiddos have a wicked case of cabin fever!) Needless to say, I can't wait until there is enough snowmelt that I can turn them loose in the backyard to dig in the sandbox, climb the trees, and fight without breaking pieces of furniture (at least until we get the patio set out of storage).

Here's what I'm looking forward to (in no particular order): 1) Our first grill-out of the year! Something about that first cookout is just so rewarding. Bonus points if we already have the gazebo set up and can dine al fresco. 2) Spring is probably the only time I get excited about outdoor chores, such as planting flowers, hanging up the windchimes, or doing the switcheroo of bringing out the lawnmower in exchange for putting back the snowblower. 3) Opening the windows and getting some fresh air in the house! I might even feel motivated enough to do some spring cleaning (at least for a few minutes). 4) Letting the kids play outside (and being able to throw them out in the backyard when they get too rowdy indoors). 5) The smells of fresh-cut grass and blooming flowers. 6) Planning summer vacations (and the less fun but necessary mapping out of all the kids activities from June through Labor Day that makes my summer a blur). 7) Being able to walk at a normal pace, and driving without worries of spinouts or fishtails. 8) Did I mention turning the kids loose in the backyard?! Hopefully my house will still be standing by spring...
