| | Reliving the dreamOctober 22, 2008 - Kylie SaariLast night, I had the opportunity to relive my my adolescence, to remember who I was, to scream at the top of my lungs with 13,000 other women were exactly like me. Sure, some where taller, some shorter, and many a whole lot thinner, but they were just like me none the less. They all love NKOTB. For those of you not in the know, that is New Kids on the Block. Last night I remembered why I love them too. The band was very aware of the fact they they were kids the last time they performed before disbanding 15 years ago. We were kids too. It wasn't just a reunion for the band, as Joey McIntyre pointed out. This was a reunion of the fans. And the fact that the band is now made up of full grown men made the evening just that much more. It helped that we had great seats - 26 rows from the stage, section 102. Awesome. In 1990, NKOTB came to the Metrodome. I wanted nothing more than to see the concert. It was July 4th weekend, and my mom and dad absolutely refused. It was classic drama. The tears, the anger, professed devotion for all time to the band. I didn't get to go. They did let me have a girlfriend over, and we listened to the concert in my living room broadcast live on KDWB. It wasn't until this morning that I fully recovered from the disappointment. The band played classics - Jordan can still hit that falsetto and not look pained, and Joey still sings sweet ballads - I played the CD for my kids this morning. They didn't get it, and my husband just looked disgruntled as I belted out the songs and danced around my living room. Last night, I got a chance to remember who I was before the cares of the world got me down. I almost shelled out $45 for a t-shirt that said "Property of Joey McIntyre" but was caught just in time by my grown-up reasoning. After all, I can buy the shirt on ebay for a lot less.
