Breaking writer's block

March 13, 2013 - Jennifer Brookens
I usually try to start off each week with a new blog, but as we approach the noon hour on Wednesday, I still have no good ideas. I don't even have any entertaining Web junk to fall back on this time. (From what I understand, the singing goats were a big hit with the evening crew here at the office).

It's an interesting paradox to have writer's block when you write nearly every day for the paper. I mean, how can you be stuck when you have all your information for a story right there, and all you gotta do is type it up? Yet this week, I've felt stuck wondering how to finesse certain points & how to avoid something getting lost in translation (and Murphy's law has taught me that anything that can be taken the wrong way will be). It seems every time I've sat down in front of this blank template the past few days, my brain automatically reflects the blank white screen.

I have recently been challenged to write something new, thanks to a writer's group I am a part of. But the great debate inside my head is whether I start something totally new, or dig back through my college years and pre-parenting years when I had time to write and freshen up some old ideas. So for now, I'm still kicking things around in my head, hearing a rattle and knowing there's gotta still be some good ideas in there.

In the meantime, I'm going to look up some more singing goat videos...
